OrderCommon questions about payroll and WPS in UAE
What is the WPS in the UAE?
The Wage Protection System (WPS) is an electronic salary-transfer system supervised by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) and the UAE Central Bank. Employers pay registered employees through WPS-approved banks or agents using a SIF (Salary Information File), ensuring workers are paid in full and on time.
Is WPS mandatory for my company?
WPS is mandatory for all companies registered with MOHRE on the mainland, and most free zones apply their own WPS rules. Salaries must be paid within the timeframe set by regulation, or the establishment risks fines and a suspension of new work permits.
What happens if salaries are paid late through WPS?
MOHRE applies escalating measures: once wages pass the permitted number of days late, the company can be fined and blocked from issuing or renewing work permits until salaries are settled. We schedule every WPS run to clear well before the deadline.
How is end-of-service gratuity calculated?
For standard contracts under UAE Labour Law, gratuity is based on the last basic salary: 21 days of basic pay per year for the first five years of service and 30 days per year thereafter, pro-rated for partial years and capped at two years of total pay. We calculate it precisely for each leaver.
Can you generate the WPS SIF file for us?
Yes. We generate and submit the SIF file through your agent bank as part of the monthly service. If you prefer to do it yourself, our free WPS SIF file generator creates a compliant file directly in your browser.
Do you handle the payroll accounting too?
Yes. Every payroll run is posted to your books through our bookkeeping service — salaries, accruals and gratuity provisions kept in sync with your accounts.
What documents do you need to run payroll?
Employment contracts, salary breakdowns (basic plus allowances), Emirates ID and visa details, IBAN details for each employee, and any monthly variables — overtime, bonuses, unpaid leave. We provide a simple monthly template.
